April 10, 2015
On April 10, Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio recently hosted a visit from Brownie Scout Troop 40277 and their leaders, Heather Hall, Jessica Fleet, and Charlotte Hallock. The gallery visit fulfilled a requirement for a fine art badge. In addition to visiting the gallery and learning about the variety of media and arts presented in the current exhibition entitled "Spring at Last," three artist-members of the gallery demonstrated their media of choice. Samantha Moore, a fused-glass artist from Bridgewater, presented a display of special glasses and tools needed to create jewelry and other glass art pieces. Her demonstration included glass-cutting and edge treatments, and stories about the frustrations and rewards that come with working with glass. Danna Phalen, from Brookfield is an artist who paints with alcohol-based inks on YUPO. The girls were entertained with the vibrancy of colors and Danna's abstract application of the media. Danna led them through a series of paint applications that encouraged imaginative and creative responses from the girls. Diane Dubreuil, a plein air watercolor artist, displayed her sketchbooks and spoke about value studies and art journaling related to her plein air experiences. On her easel was an example of a painting created en plein air last spring on Whittlesey Avenue in New Milford. At the close of the program, each scout spoke briefly about her favorite art piece in the current gallery show. Assisting with the program was Barbara Payne, member of New Milford Commission on the Arts.
