Deborah Casey

Creativity has always been a driving force in my life. Theater and poetry were my media of choice throughout my career, but now that I am retired, I have turned my attention to painting. It isn't so far removed from crafting words on a page or movements on a stage. All require concentration and imagination. What I enjoy most about painting is the exploration of color in solitude. It is a quiet and contemplative practice which suits my current situation. I would describe my work as abstract but most lean into landscape with a strong sense of place. As a younger woman, I taught a workshop on the importance of mission statements and the following articulates mine.

I endeavor to feed myself and those around me with words and actions that nurture self acceptance and provoke probing questions. I strive to live a life full of creativity, reflection, and curiosity while supporting others to pursue their aspirations. Through painting and writing, I experience the world, and this life, more fully.
