I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember. I explored ceramics, photography and stained glass before I finally found my true passion - sculpture. I had moved to a rural property where I had lots of space and extensive gardens but something was missing. I needed something that would embrace and enhance the views. I enjoyed visiting sculpture parks and I loved the idea of having my own sculpture park in my new space but I knew I could not afford the art I saw on display. So, I decided to make my own. I had been collecting rusty metal scrap pieces from dumpsters, friends, barn sales and the sides of the road with no particular plan. Now I could put those to use. I fashioned this scrap into unique sculptures and placed them in my garden. The birds loved their new perches and it added an element to the landscape that was missing. It also brought a smile to my face.
My sculptures are assembled from scrap metal so most have a common theme featuring the patina of rust and a minimalistic aesthetic that has empty space so you see through the piece and into the landscape behind it. I wanted them to look like they had always been where I placed them and to meld into their natural surroundings. I was lucky to have a well known sculptors studio close by so I took classes with David Boyajian. He helped me focus, refine and express my ideas; recycle, reuse and renew is now my mantra.
I hope you enjoy them and if you have any pieces of rusty metal around—I would be happy to take them off your hands.
My work has been shown locally at the Silvermine Gallery, Ridgefield Guild of Artists, the Mark Twain Library, the Richter House, the Ridgefield Library, The White Silo Farm Gallery and at Aquila's Nest Winery. My pieces are in private collections in CT, AL, DE and NY.
