With each brushstroke, I unlock the world within me and invite others to step inside. Though I began painting after retirement, the creative spark has always been part of me, waiting to be fulfilled. My art allows me to layer memory, emotion and imagination, creating spaces for reflection and connection.
Maureen Gianni is a self-taught artist. Her passion for art blossomed when she retired in 2022. Gianni was born in Pittsburgh, where she grew up surrounded by creativity and artistic expression. Her mother (Maggie Milono) was an acclaimed professional artist, known for her home studio where she hosted art classes, demos, and workshops. Early on, Maureen joined her mother and fellow artists on plein air outings and to local art shows.
After briefly attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Maureen set out to explore the world, joined Trans World Airlines (TWA) as a flight attendant for two decades. She transitioned to passionate nonprofit work, dedicating herself to cancer organizations for the next two decades.
In 2022, Maureen found the time and freedom to pursue her passion for sketching and painting daily. Actively involved in the artistic community, Maureen is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Lyme Art Association, the Society for Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN), the Washington Art Association, the Kent Art Association and the Ridgefield Art Guild. She meets weekly with fellow artists at the Meeting House Artist Studio Group for communal sharing of her passion.
Maureen has participated in numerous juried exhibitions: Mark Twain Library 52 Annual Juried Show, The Richter Art Association's 44 Annual Juried Art show (Honorable Mention), Society for Creative Arts Newtown Spring Juried Show (Marianne Scanlon Memorial Award). Kent Art Association Juried 2025 Spring Show (Honorable Mention).
Additionally, her landscapes have been recently exhibited in Lyme Art Association's 2024 and 2025 Expanding Visions Shows and 2024 New England Landscape Show.
Maureen has now achieved Associate Artist member status by Lyme Art Association as of February 2026. That recognition comes from having participated in multiple art exhibitions over a period of time. So far, she has been accepted in 8 exhibits (and counting!) in two years.
Dedicated to continuous uncovering and exploration, Maureen regularly attends workshops, classes, and art demos. Her art is a reflection of her creativity and openhearted curiosity of the world in which she lives.
