"When I was first introduced to oil and cold wax, just over a year ago, I was immediately captivated! After years of “replicating” nature, in a realistic style with pastels and acrylics, I had been striving for a signature style that would be more personal and interpretive.
"My voice has evolved with this medium. The interplay between colorful layers of set wax is, in my view, exciting, relevant and soulful. They are blended, smeared, etched and imprinted, in much the same way that we build on our experiences along life’s journey. The process welcomes experimentation, stimulates growth and delights with serendipity.
"It is my hope that you will find this metaphor of life insightful as you visually witness foundations that support evolving surfaces. As these surfaces emerge in sweeping color, the process exposes swirls, textures, marks, impressions and patterns, from deep within." — Annie Sadlon
Annie Sadlon earned her BFA from The University of Hartford with a major in Graphic Design. While in college, she had the privilege of studying abroad at SACI in Florence, Italy where inspiration abounded. She has freelanced for advertising agencies and private companies producing print and web design.
A colorist at heart, she began painting with acrylics then discovered pastels while living in Zurich, Switzerland where she developed a realistic style. Only recently introduced to oil and cold wax, she has pivoted to a more abstract style, introducing mixed media as an embellishment to her surfaces and textures. Annie has exhibited in juried shows at New Britain Museum of American Art, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) and Arts Escape in Southbury, CT. A former member of the Connecticut Pastel Society, she is currently a member of SCAN and Gallery 25. She works from her home studio in Sandy Hook, CT.
