My path in art has been a somewhat circuitous route. I've always been equally interested in painting, writing, and graphic design. After studying for my BFA at the State University of New York at New Paltz—and attending classes at the Art Students League in both Woodstock and NYC—I decided to move to Manhattan.
I landed my first job at Interiors and Residential Interiors magazines as Assistant Editor. Moving along in that role, I became Associate Editor and then switched to graphic design at Contract Design as Art Director. While at Gralla Publications, I was eventually promoted to Corporate Art Director, overseeing a multitude of magazines and building the art department for the entire company.
After moving to Connecticut, I morphed into Art Director for Intertec Publishing, then became Creative Di-rector for Target Publications in Norwalk, eventually ending up as Creative Director for Primedia Business Publications in Stamford. After many years in the above positions, I elected to freelance.
Subsequent graphic design clients included The Economist magazine and publications for Ernst & Young. I was Creative Director of Fairfield County Home, Art Director of special interest publications such as Line Cooking for Taunton Press, and currently creating airport graphic design for variety of marketing firms.
To celebrate what is euphemistically referred to as "one's golden years" I decided to go back to my first love, which is oil painting. My subject matter can best be described as eclectic. I paint what I like—which ranges from landscapes, barns, buildings and junkyards to old shoes, cars, Levittown nostalgia and old cigarette packs. I enjoy drawing, so a great many of my paintings strive not to lose the drawing behind them. In a nutshell, I'm just doing what I love doing.
