Members of Brownie Girl Scout Troop 40228 from Northville Elementary School and their leaders, Joana Chiappa and Leslie Savich, visited Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio in anticipation of completing their Painting Life Styles badge requirements. The girls reviewed gallery etiquette, interviewed artists, learned about painting mediums, and identified and spoke about favorite paintings on exhibit in the gallery.
Assisting the troop leaders for this project were artists, Diane Dubreuil of New Milford, and Ellie Boyd of Southbury, both exhibiting artists at Gallery 25. Ms. Boyd introduced the girls to the art of portrait painting with oils, explaining the use of a model, sketches, photography and composition. Ms. Dubreuil, a former Brownie Girl Scout leader at Northville in the 1980s, spoke on the arts of plein air painting and sketchbook journaling. The girls gave their own mini-critiques of the paintings in the current show "Red, White, and Winter". Polar bears and Huskies were very popular!
