Sound at the Station

Gallery 25 is presenting a special Holiday Concert “Sound at the Station” Tuesday, December 14th at 10 am and again at 11 am. The Hummingbird duo, Barbara Soares and Jim Stasiak, will present two hour-long musical performances of original sound compositions using gongs, bowls, percussion, guitar and bass in a free ranging tribute to avant-garde artist Sun Ra and his Space Arkestra. Come in, shop, and give yourself the gift of the power of sound to relax and the power of play to inspire. Suggested donation is $5.00 dollars.

The focal point of the performance will be Soares's "Space is the Place" composition, a mixed bag of poetry and gong playing interlaced with electric guitar, Himalayan bowls and shruti box singing. The artist will also play "When You Were Born" and end with her "Funny Face" medicine song. Hummingbird and Friends is well known for their eclectic blend of chants, jazz, blues, rock and country and has been performing at music festivals, vineyards and other venues in the CT Northwest corner since 2011.

Soares has studied alternative music compositions at the Sound and Music Institute of the Open Center in NYC. She is also a sound yoga and vocal yoga coach, blues/jazz singer certified in several modalities of energy and sound healing. She offers hummingbird sound yoga and sound healing immersions for groups and private sessions. Using earth, dance and symphonic gongs, bowls, tuning forks and humming-for-health meditations, her goal is to help individuals experience becoming "one with sound" to promote a deep relaxation response that balances energy and reduces stress.

Stasiak is an award-winning photographic artist, musician and printing arts professional. He studied photography at Pratt Institute; writing at City College of New York; electronic music composition at Manhattan School of Music; and platinum photo printing with Tillman Crane. Both are members of Gallery 25 with their photographs.
